DO AS I SAY, by Reverend Coni
I read the article about city buildings needed maintained while were supposed to keep ours updated and beautiful. I have a "do as I say story for you."
I made
the mistake of filing a complaint with the city that my neighbor refused to cut down 2 foot high grass alone our fence line.
The neighbor countered that my fence was on his property (he claimed) so the city suddenly lost interest in my complaint and turned attention to me.
Unfortunately my contractor did not get a permit so that
started the ball. Yes, I got one.. and a survey too. Was on my land.. As if that was not enough the building department isn't happy yet. My post were put on the wrong side and HE WANTS ME TO CORRECT THIS
on a fence up 4 years that has been nail/glued together. Of course that means taking it down and putting up another one unless your superman and can pull this one apart.
I contest this, asking
"where oh where did my complaint go" and state that my other neighbors fence is identical to mine. I DO MEAN IDENTICAL. Now how can a city give one resident a permit and sign off on the
building of a fence then tell the person next door hers is in violation?
By the time the contractor came to tear it down I had received a letter to appear in court for NONCOMPLIANCE. You know I have
called and ask everyone ... there doesn't seem to be anywhere to file a complaint or contest unfair action in Parma.
I hoped the law department would help and they postponed the hearing, I tore down my fence
mad as a hatter.
THAT'S THAT. No.. Didn't go to court, I was done, I complied so now I'm in contempt of court and a warrant is issued for my arrest and the license burial has blocked my getting plates until I answer the warrant.
Not only does it appear local government can say (DO AS I SAY) but you don't seem to have an avenue to challenge or complain.. and if you do to the powers that be.. (Like the Building Department) well, look
what has happened to me for asking for fair treatment concerning codes?
You would think the city would spend more time prosecuting thieves, drunks and killers than residents.
